Because of the audio recording, the Public Prosecution Service is taking action in the Sobotka case

Date:

The secretly recorded tape on which the now deceased ex-justice chief Christian Pilnacek made accusations against the ÖVP has now prompted the authorities to take action. The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the first suspicions against the President of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP).

A spokeswoman said on Thursday that there was an attempted abuse of office.

The allegations allege that recently deceased ex-section head Pilnacek spoke privately in a bar about the fact that Sobotka had accused him of never rejecting investigations.

Last summer’s conversation was secretly recorded and leaked to the ‘Krone’ in recent days. Sobotka’s spokesperson had already rejected Pilnacek’s story on Tuesday.

Responsibilities are checked
The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating whether proceedings should be initiated at all. The possible responsibility also needs to be clarified. For example, it is possible that the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption will take over the case. A case was also opened against other unknown people heard on the recording.
