According to Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP), there are cases when a Eurofighter has to take off about 50-60 times a year. The decision whether or not to shoot down a flying object rests with Tanner. “My mobile phone could always ring,” she says in the krone.tv talk.
Until now, there has never been a critical situation requiring the shooting down of a flying object. “It is usually a mistake where misguided drones have to be escorted out of Austrian airspace,” the Defense Minister reports.
“We must be transparent”
Tanner also reports on “necessary investments” in the Austrian armed forces. Tanks were modernized and their equipment was improved. “A lot of money is being invested here at the moment. We must be transparent,” says Minister Tanner.
