On the fifth day of the trial, ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) wanted to undermine Thomas Schmid’s credibility. Why the plan didn’t work.
It was not a good day for Sebastian Kurz. Key figure Thomas Schmid mastered his marathon statement with confidence. He accused the former chancellor several times.
Richter threw down prepared short attacks
However, Kurz failed to stage a coup on the fifth day of the trial, although he had prepared some attacks on Thomas Schmid’s credibility. Judge Michael Radasztics rejected everyone.
Photo of a mobile message
For example, Kurz’s lawyer Otto Dietrich presented a photo of a mobile message in which Schmid congratulated his ex-mentor Kurz on his appearance on ‘ZiB 2’ because he had finally said how ‘it really was’. The ORF interview took place after the searches in October 2022.
Kurz wanted to show that Schmid accused Kurz in the presence of the WKStA, but acted very differently in the background. The judge did not include the message in the file because it was relevant to the poll affair, but not to the lawsuit surrounding the false statement.
Kurz also submitted an affidavit from two Russian managers intended to undermine Schmid’s credibility. The judge did not take this into account either. An affidavit is not enough for Radasztics, Kurz should have the managers testify as witnesses…
