Austrian society is getting older. The need for care and support will increase significantly in the coming years. “We have more healthcare providers than ever before in our system,” says Elisabeth Rappold from Gesundheit Österreich GmbH in an interview on krone.tv with Jürgen Winterleitner.
“There is no pill for healthcare needs,” says Rappold. When asked whether it makes sense to recruit nursing staff from abroad, Rappold answers that the goal should be to be healthy and independent for longer, so that you can take care of yourself for longer.
In international comparison, Rappold sees a need to catch up in Austria in terms of developing a healthy lifestyle in society: healthy life years in Austria have decreased, while they have increased in all other EU countries. “This means we need to take urgent action to change ourselves as a society and take more responsibility. We need to invest much more heavily in setting aside care needs so that we can stay healthy for longer and take care of ourselves.”
