Before the end of the year, financial officer and LH deputy Gaby Schaunig (SPÖ) speaks to the “Krone” about debt, intergenerational justice and what is important in crises – and whether next year will be better.
“Kron”: We have a record debt in Carinthia of 4.4 billion euros, the net new debt is 492.3 million euros – why? Where does this debt come from?
Finance Minister Gaby Schaunig: We are in a situation similar to our Heta crisis – not entirely in terms of challenges, but in terms of volume. At the time, the volume came from a very big challenge that we had to solve. And now we are dealing with a confluence of many factors that mean that the estimate – the expected new debt, which is usually corrected when the accounts are implemented – has reached a very high level.
