The Government of Spain has confirmed that an application developed by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) and the National Coin and Stamp Factory will be ready before the summer of 2024 to protect minors from pornography on the Internet, as mentioned. this application was advanced last December.
In this way, the Spanish government as a whole supports the project launched by both entities to create a Effective age verification system for accessing harmful content for minors, such as pornographic ones. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Minister of Education and Government, Pilar Alegría, during the press conference after the Council of Ministers.
In concrete terms, he specified that it is a pilot project consisting of: age verification system which “has already been tested with the major browsers and whose main purpose is to protect minors from accessing adult content.”
The minister has given an example to explain how this application will work. “If at any time I wanted to access certain content on an adult page with my mobile phone, the mobile phone, with this application developed by the Data Protection Agency, would recognize me and therefore I would have the opportunity to go through the different to browse But if my minor son were to use that mobile phone, the application would recognize him and make it impossible for him to access these pages with adult content,” he explained.
