Every second respondent (51 percent) thinks Austria is “no longer neutral.” At the same time, the clear majority (78 percent) is in favor of maintaining neutrality.
According to a survey by Unique Research* on the second anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine, two-thirds of respondents are “very” or “somewhat” concerned about the war. However, the majority does not believe that the Russian army could attack Austria.
However, almost a third (31 percent) fear such an attack if Ukraine loses. In this case, only a few would take up arms.
Here you can view the main results of the study:
Half want to support Ukraine
Half of those polled said the Austrian government should support the country in war. However, 42 percent also reject further help. Moreover, almost one in four respondents believe that NATO itself “provoked” the Russian attack with its eastern expansion. However, the majority (55 percent) believe that the attack “cannot be justified by anything.”
Attitudes towards the sanctions against Russia are also divided. Only just over one in ten people (13 percent) believe the country is suffering, and significantly more (a third) suspect the sanctions are harming EU countries more than Russia.
The fact that the Austrian government supports the coercive measures is generally seen as correct. For about a third of respondents, this is the wrong approach.
*On behalf of the publishing house “Pragmaticus”, 800 eligible voters in Austria were interviewed. Only 15 percent of them would agree with a new safety concept instead of neutrality. The margin of fluctuation in the results is 3.5 percent.
