41 ads per day! – Sachslehner calls for “an ankle bracelet for wife beaters”

Date:

Focus on domestic violence – in Spain courts can order an electronic ankle bracelet for monitoring. About 4,000 are already in use. “In my opinion, it is high time that we do the same in Austria,” said Viennese politician Laura Sachslehner (ÖVP).

Last but not least, the two shocking bloodsheds with five female victims in Vienna (the same number as in all of last year) show that Austria has a problem with violence against women! The police figures also prove this. So-called expulsions have risen sharply in recent years (see graph below).

While there were still 11,652 entry and approach bans in the first Corona year of 2020, last year this number rose to a record of 15,115 cases. That is an average of 41 cases per day. In the sad ranking of violence in the federal states, Vienna (4,272 expulsions) leads by a wide margin, ahead of Lower Austria (2,784), Upper Austria and Styria. Overall, almost a quarter of women in Austria have already experienced physical violence.

Here you can see the number of entry bans over the past four years.

“Guarantee more safety for affected women”
Now demands are again being made of politicians in the person of the busy Viennese ex-ÖVP Secretary General Laura Sachslehner. Their plan: “Anklets for wife beaters like in Spain!” Because courts there can order electronic monitoring of the contact and approach ban. About 4,000 devices are already in use. To avert danger, the domestic model would also provide that the police are warned via the ankle bracelet alarm if a violent (ex) partner approaches the victim’s place of residence without permission.

Laura Sachslehner: “In the fight against violence against women, we must consider every measure that can provide additional safety. In my opinion, it is high time that we do the same in Austria.”
