Statements in recent hours from the leaders of both the PSOE and the Junts suggest that an agreement is closer. If the text finally passes in the Judiciary Committee, it could be debated and voted on during Congress’s plenary session next week.
The Justice Committee of the Congress of Deputies will meet this Thursday to approve the opinion on the amnesty law if the PSOE and the Junts finally reach an agreement.
According to parliamentary sources, the meeting will take place on March 7 at 11 a.m., the same day that the extension of the deadline requested by the PSOE to agree on a new text with the Junts expires.
The Junts rejected the amnesty law during the January 30 plenary vote, believing it did not cover all terrorist crimes.
The statements in recent hours from the leaders of both the PSOE and the Junts suggest that the agreement is closer and the fact that no further extension of the deadline for the Justice Commission meeting has been requested also reinforces this idea.
If the text finally passes in the Judiciary Committee, it could be debated and voted on during Congress’s plenary session next week.
