parliamentary groups EAJ/PNV, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU (EP-IU) this Friday expressed their “bewilderment” and “concern” over the recent arrest of the former member of ETA, Xavier Atristain, by decision of the Supreme Court (TS). The three groups agreed on a statement in which they believe that “the Arbitrary decision of the Supreme Court creates deep legal uncertainty”
The parliamentarians Joseba Díez (PNV), Julen Arzuaga (EH Bildu) and Miren Gorrotxategi (Elkarrekin Podemos-IU) appeared in the Basque Chamber this afternoon to give their opinion on the matter. As they have recalled, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) found that Spain had violated Atristain’s right to a fair trial because of the incommunicado regime to which he was subject. The three powers indicate that they welcomed the phrase with “respect”.
PNV, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU, who make up almost 80% of the Basque Chamber, speak their “bewilderment” due to the fact that despite the “clarity” of the ECtHR’s ruling, which they say is “a compelling, compelling and now final ruling”, the Supreme Court has decided not to take it into account.
Similarly, the three groups express their “concern” that “existing” other alternativesImmediate jail time has been declared for Atristain”.
