Otxandiano apologizes to the victims for his words about ETA, but the associations reduce his credibility

Date:

EH Bildu’s lehendakari candidate has asked for their forgiveness for saying ETA was “an armed group.” Victims’ associations in turn call it ‘false forgiveness’.

The candidate for lehendakari by EH Bildu, Otxandiano hairtoday stated that he “regrets” saying last Monday that ETA was an “armed group” and asked Sorry If with those words he would hurt the ‘sensitivity’ of the victims, especially ‘the victims of ETA’. However, victims’ associations have reduced the credibility of his words.

The victims’ associations expressed their discomfort with Otxandiano’s statements in which he described ETA as an “armed group” and not as a “terrorist”, and then recalled the violence of the Spanish state.

“I regret that I gave that answer and did not respond by saying that we have to take this issue out of the electoral context in the campaign,” he said this morning during an interview on Radio Euskadi.

Otxandiano’s forgiveness has not convinced the victims’ associations, who called it “false forgiveness” and “not credible” in messages spread on social networks.

The association Covite has emphasized on social networks that Otxandiano continues without saying that “killing was wrong”. “His ‘sorry’ is not credible as long as his words do not become actions.”

They still don’t say murder was wrong; They continue to call captured murderers “political prisoners” and forbid them to convert; They continue to display them publicly as if they were heroes.

For its part, the AVT has indicated that it is “a false forgiveness very similar to the forgiveness that prisoners ask for in form letters to their victims to obtain prison sentences.” In his opinion, “all they are looking for with this is to talk about something else and not see what is behind this supposedly promising link that they are trying to sell us.”
