Politicians are worried – shortage of medical officers: “We are losing control”

Call for help from the districts of Styria: the shortage of medical officers is becoming an increasingly serious problem; only five of the thirteen regions still have sufficient staff. Files remain lying around, complaints pile up. Those affected are calling for an image correction and salary adjustments. Politics promises a solution.

Doctor or neurosurgeon? “The problem is already rooted in investigations,” says Rosemarie Gössler, spokeswoman for the Styrian medical officials, with certainty. “What young doctor would choose a career with such a stuffy image when today he can choose from countless, more exciting-sounding options?”
