The air base in Langenlebarn is still called Brumowski – but not only the name is being discussed here, but also the sanitary facilities. A response to a question from the ministry recently did not shed much light on the matter.
The federal army is investing many millions of euros in a new aviation shipyard in Langenlebarn. The soldiers currently have to train on site in garages because the sports halls also need to be renovated. Without sufficient sanitary facilities, as the PVV criticized. As reported, ÖVP State Councilor Johann Höfinger came to his defense and also emphasized the upcoming expansion of the sports facilities. However, it remained unclear exactly when that would happen.
Criticism of the medium-term implementation
The FPÖ therefore wanted to know this in a parliamentary question from Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP). The answer is vague, they speak of a “medium-term implementation” and note that “there are sufficient showers, washrooms and toilet facilities throughout the building”. In the largest garrison in the country, the paths to get there are often further.
New name causes dissatisfaction
On site, the employees in green often grab each other’s heads, even when it does not involve greeting the military authorities. The new name of Brumowski Air Base is not exactly well received by the uniformed personnel. As is known, the choice of two godparents, the Christian social pillar Saint Leopold Figl and the papal pilot Othmar Pabisch, led to the “Black Hawk” barracks being given an awkward double name.
