krone.tv asks – Drama about Lena Schilling: What Viennese thinks about it

Date:

Serious accusations, a failed press conference, support from the FPÖ and a civil lawsuit. To what extent does the drama surrounding Lena Schilling influence voters? krone.tv asked around the Schottentor.

The party leadership continues to emphasize that these are Schilling’s very personal areas that have nothing to do with politics – but not everyone shares this opinion. On Wednesday, Green Club employees will set up an information stand in front of the University of Vienna: The election campaign must continue – despite the Schilling case.

“She is herself hide”
krone.tv meets a pensioner near the Schottentor metro station. Not out of pity: it is clear to them that from the moment you are in the public eye and involved in politics, you are a target. “When I step on this sidewalk, I need to know what’s going to happen.” And further: “It’s her own fault.”

“Everybody makes mistakes …”
One young student in particular was visibly upset about the situation. He expressed sharp criticism: “She has actively slandered and endangered people. I don’t know how it will be received in the EU Parliament if such a person sits there and wants to play the moraliser. I can do that myself, I don’t need Lena Schilling for that.”

A bit of pity radiates from it: “Everyone makes mistakes, I think she should admit what she has done.”

Another passerby thinks the ‘headlines’ are exaggerated: ‘If it has little substance, then I don’t take it seriously. I wonder why this is being made so widespread.”

“It has nothing to do with the election campaign”
But not everyone thinks this way. A student sits in front of the main entrance of the University of Vienna: “Of course that influences the opinion one way or another.”
Is it all just a campaign or is it just grumbling and farting?

As he parked his bike right in front of the university, another student said: “I think it clearly has nothing to do with the election campaign. It’s a private matter. There is a clear separation. It has no influence on my choice.”

“I like their goals”
The emphasis in the EU election campaign should be on content. A young Viennese says clearly: “The goals she pursued, such as the city highway, were good. And I like her goals and I would vote for her.”

It remains to be seen whether the Schilling case will have a direct impact on voting behavior. According to a current OGM study, the Greens are losing slightly and could be pushed to fifth place by the NEOS, which could make slight gains.
