During the commemoration of the victims of the attack in Solingen, demonstrators provoked with xenophobic slogans on Monday evening. One demonstrator is even said to have given the Hitler salute.
For example, some participants chanted “Germany for the Germans, foreigners out.” According to police, about 120 people took part in the demonstration that caught their attention. Counter-demonstrators partially blocked the road.
Forbidden and scuffles
Because of the slogans, the police broke up the meeting and started criminal proceedings. After that, there was a spontaneous demonstration with about a hundred participants. A suspect allegedly gave the Hitler salute and a report was filed.
To commemorate the dead in Solingen (North Rhine-Westphalia), there were several gatherings with a total of several hundred people on Monday, including a vigil (see video above). There were occasional skirmishes, says a police spokesman. “It’s very emotional and loud.” Clashes between right-wing and left-wing demonstrators were avoided. Two evictions were issued.
IS has claimed responsibility for the attack
As reported, three people were killed and eight others injured, some seriously, at a city festival in Solingen on Friday. The suspected perpetrator, a 26-year-old Syrian, turned himself in on Saturday and was arrested. He is now in custody. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating murder and suspicion of membership of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). They claimed responsibility for the attack.
