The investigating judge of the ‘trials’ has given the parties five days to decide how the amnesty law should be applied with regard to Carles Puigdemont and the other independence leaders who were not tried after their exile.
Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena has agreed to uphold the arrest warrant in the Spanish state against Carles Puigdemont after the amnesty law was published in the Official Gazette (BOE) on Tuesday.
In a resolution published this Tuesday, the judge orders that the security forces and the corps be informed that “the national arrest warrants remain in force and active” for the four cited suspects, adopted in an order dated January 2023, “so “we must continue to comply with them as long as these decisions are not judicially modified or revoked.”
The person who is also the instructor of the ‘trials’ case made a series of statements this Tuesday in which he… within 5 days to the parties – Prosecution and defense – to report on the applicability or non-applicability of the amnesty law to the defendants Carles Puigdemont, Antoni Comín, Lluis Puig and Marta Rovira, who were not tried after going into exile.
On the other hand, the Criminal Chamber court that reviewed the case of the trial and the judge Susana Polo, as instructor of the ‘Tsunami Democratic’ case, issued two other orders also informing the Public Prosecution Service and other parties to file charges express their views on the application of the amnesty law in their respective cases.
Today, dozens of ERC and Junts defendants officially applied for amnesty. Among those asking for amnesty are Oriol Junqueras, former ministers Raül Romeva, Dolors Bassa, Carles Mundó and Meritxell Serret, the general secretary of the ERC, Marta Rovira, the former president of parliament Carme Forcadell, in addition to the new president of the Parliament, Josep Rull, and Junts general secretary Jordi Turull.
