Florence Lasserrecandidate for the Ensemble coalition, will not appear in the second round of the National Assembly elections, in the fifth constituency of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. In response to the call of the president, Emmanuel Macron, the centrist deputy has withdrawn her candidacy and only the two left-wing and far-right options will remain in the constituency of Bayonne.
Lasserre, who received 26% of the votes, meets all the requirements to fall behind in the second round Colette Capdevielleof the New Popular Front, with 32%, and Serge Rossoof the National Group (RN), with 27%. However, to prevent a victory for the far right, he decided to withdraw; in any case without giving any voting order.
In the other two constituencies of Iparralde a triangle has been reached for the second round, but it remains to be seen what will happen.
In the sixth constituency, which is on the coast of Lapurdi, the left party won Peio Dufau (29%), while Christian Devezefrom the Ensemble coalition, came second (26%). Dufau has warned that if Macron’s coalition candidacy is maintained, there is a “risk” that the far right will triumph. Victor Lastecouereswhich occupies third place with 25%.
In the fourth district, which is inland, the situation is different. There too, the left candidate won (Iñaki Etxaniz38%), while the second most voted was Sylviane Lopez (25%), from RN. The right Jean Lasallefrom the right, came in third with 18%. The expectation is that all three will be in the second round.
