The organic bill, which is under consideration, urges the new members of the CGPJ, agreed upon by the two major parties, to propose a new electoral system within six months.
The Congress of Deputies has approved the urgent processing of the law to reform the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), with 258 votes in favor of the PP and the PSOE and criticism from the rest of the political groups, including votes against. 43) and abstentions (33) are divided.
The organic bill, which is under consideration, urges the new members of the CGPJ, agreed upon by the two major parties, to propose a new electoral system within six months.
To the vote The President of the Spanish Government is not presentPedro Sánchez, who this morning received in Moncloa the former Prime Minister of Portugal, now President-elect of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
The coalition government partner, Sumar has abstained whereas the proposal is insufficient and needs to be ‘corrected’, as did the PNV and UPN, while the far-right party Vox voted against it and some of the main allies of Sánchez’s investiture, such as ERC and EH Bildu, did not vote, while Podemos, BNG and Junts rejected it.
All parties, from right to left, have attacked the PP and PSOE pact, either because it has not deepened the reform of the judiciary or, in the case of Vox, because the two-tier system “divides” judges.
And from today the invoice will be processed urgently finally approved during a plenary session in the Senate, scheduled for July 31. PP and PSOE agree reject any amendment that will be registered as the deadline opened today until next Tuesday the 9th.
Although the two major parties have joined forces, the debate continues deformation between the two and while the PP urged the PSOE to comply with the CGPJ proposal, the Socialists accused it of not complying with the Constitution for five years.
The spokesperson for EH Bildu, Mertxe Aizpurua has been very critical: does anyone believe that this could be the first step towards democratic regeneration? You cannot solve a democratic problem by agreeing with someone who promotes a strategy of intimidation and demolition every time he fails to govern,” he stressed.
For the PNV, Mikel Legardajustified his group’s abstention by saying that the reform “does not address the underlying problem” and has advocated giving “direct and unmediated” attention to the judicial career in the appointment of judicial government positions, while UPN has expressed doubts about the text.
Junts, ERC, EH Bildu, Podemos and BNG have expressed their anger at a pact they consider unnatural, as they advocated a reform agreed with the progressive partners.
Junts’ spokesperson, Miriam Noguerashas accused the PSOE of allowing judges to continue to “do and undo” and not putting an end to the “mafia” in Justice. Nogueras has referred to the judiciary as “our toga” and has thereby angered the Volksbank, which, amid complaints, has asked for the floor, which is not allowed.
The protest has begun very long applause in the PP which lasted until the ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufiantook the stage and jokingly thanked him as if the ovation was for him.
“Two states that are parties because they say so, that have hated each other for more than forty years, but that do not hate each other because of their food, they agree on that,” the independence leader said ironically.
From Podemos, Ione Belarraalso regretted that Sumar “celebrated” an agreement that would give rise to a large PSOE-PP coalition.
