New EU representative Lena Schilling wants to put accusations about her private life behind her. “I have the next five years to prove what I signed up for,” she said on Wednesday. She wants to be measured by her “political deeds.”
The 23-year-old promised, however, to explain the background to the accusations in the future. Schilling made it clear that this is not the time for this. “I have taken responsibility and now actually want to talk about politics and climate,” said the Green MP. At the same time, she admitted on Wednesday that “mistakes kept happening” in the communication during the election campaign.
What it was about
The allegations surrounding Schilling involve false claims, such as an alleged affair with ORF presenter Martin Thür and that a former girlfriend was beaten by her husband. The politician has already signed two cease and desist letters, stating that she will not make the statements in the future.
