The FPÖ approved its federal list for the National Council elections on Wednesday. It comes as no surprise that party leader Herbert Kickl is the top candidate. The zipper system was strictly followed in the preparation of the candidates: an equal number of men and women participated.
Behind Kickl in second place is Susanne Fürst, followed by Secretary General Christian Hafenecker. Fourth to tenth places are for Dagmar Belakowitsch, Secretary General Michael Schnedlitz, Barbara Kolm, Alexander Petschnig, Lisa Gubik, club director Norbert Nemeth and Rosa Ecker. Hubert Fuchs, Tina Berger and Walter Rosenkranz are also in the running, followed by former ORF presenter Marie Christine Giuliani, who currently works for “FPÖ-TV”.
Former ÖBB CFO Arnold Schiefer is listed after the career changer. Places 16 to 20 are occupied by Katayun Pracher-Hilander, Wendelin Mölzer, Irene Eisenhut, current Lower Austrian FPÖ club boss Reinhard Teufel and Ricarda Berger.
Kickl: “Prejudices are history”
“I am convinced that we have the best offer to achieve our goal, not only in terms of content but also in terms of personnel,” said FPÖ chairman Kickl in a commentary on his selection, which was confirmed by the Federal Executive Board on Wednesday morning. For Kickl, the prejudice that the FPÖ is a male-dominated party is “finally history.”
