Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) concluded his visit to the Olympic Games with a flying visit to the Olympic Village in Saint-Denis. He did not consider it impossible that Austria would apply to host major sporting events again in the future.
First of all, he took the opportunity to personally wish the athletes and the support team who were already there every success for the upcoming competitions.
“Athletes are role models for everyone!”
“Qualifying for the Olympic Games is already an exceptional achievement. The Olympians I had the pleasure of meeting in the Olympic Village are extraordinary personalities and role models for all of us. I wish them all the best for the upcoming competitions. We are already proud of them,” he explained. It is important to return home healthy. He then gave gifts: white drinking bottles with the eagle of the Republic.
During the meeting, he did not consider it impossible that Austria would apply again in the future to host major sporting events. We have learned from the 2008 European Football Championship that many things are conceivable in the future with cooperation between countries.
“Austria has already proven that it can successfully organize large events,” he said. “You see especially here in France that there are new, sustainable concepts that have an impact and are not a burden. So if there are opportunities for cooperation, why not?”
Nehammer did not want to make a medal prediction. The last Games in Tokyo already showed that Austrian athletes can have a lot of confidence, “but of course there is also a bit of luck involved.”
