The Greens want protected zones around abortion facilities and counselling centres. There is a need for a “clear legal deterrent”, women’s spokeswoman Meri Disoski said on Saturday.
“We know the problem of harassment and terrorizing unwanted pregnant women and also their relatives who accompany them when they stand in front of counseling centers or when they go to clinics,” MP Meri Disoski said on Ö1 radio on Saturday. There are “really militant opponents of abortion who offer them plastic embryos covered in theatrical blood, who insult them, who say ‘you child murderer’ and the like.”

“Psychological violence”
This psychological violence must be stopped because it “puts incredible pressure on women”. According to the Greens, to take action against this harassment, a “clear legal deterrent” is needed. If this is repeatedly violated, fines should be imposed.
In Germany, a law against so-called sidewalk harassment was passed at the beginning of this year. Accordingly, the states must ensure that women have unhindered access to counseling centers and facilities that perform abortions. Opponents of abortion who do not comply with the law risk fines of up to 5,000 euros.
