Jovent Republicà, the youth wing of the ERC, will decide on the vote to appoint its sole deputy in the Catalan Parliament, Mar Besses, who, if she were to choose to distance herself from the Republicans’ agreement with the PSC, would leave Illa without an absolute majority and complicate his appointment.
The Speaker of Parliament, Josep Rull, has been postponed to next Tuesday, August 6the round of consultations with the groups of the Catalan Chamber, an earlier step towards convening the plenary session for the inauguration of the socialist Salvador Illa. The plenary session of the investiture could take place on Thursday.
The consultation round, which was initially scheduled for Monday, has been postponed to Tuesday due to circumstances “agenda issues” of the ERC Parliamentary Groupas the Parliament states in a statement. Exactly, that is what the ERC group is waiting for Young Republic, the party’s youth section will decide today on the vote at the inauguration of its sole deputy, Mar Berrieswhich, if he were to choose to withdraw from the Republicans’ agreement with the PSC, would leave Illa without an absolute majority and complicate his nomination.
The pressure is maximum after the party’s base supported the investiture agreement. The ERC management has asked the youth to act responsibly, but believes that there is room to make room for differences. In reality, there is no defined protocol and they do not have to vote in the same direction as the party. At the moment, all stages are open.
Since the round of consultations was postponed for a day, the meeting of the Permanent Deputation that must convene the plenary session of the investiture will probably be moved to Wednesday, so that the to vote to choose Illa would be postponed until Thursday.
This is the second round of consultations that Rull is calling for after the elections of May 12, following the round he held between June 18 and 19, in which no candidate chose to run.
