Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont has announced on his social networks that he has begun his return to Catalonia with the intention of attending the investiture debate of socialist Salvador Illa.
The former president of the Generalitat Carlos Puigdemont announced this Wednesday that he “has made the return journey from exile” to attend the plenary session of the investiture of Salvador Illa, which secured the votes of the ERC and the commons to be elected president.
For his part, JxCat has already called reception act to Puigdemont in Barcelona for tomorrow, Thursday at 9:00. The event, scheduled for Paseo Lluís Companys, near Parliament, will take place just before Illa’s investiture debate begins at 10:00, although if Puigdemont were to be arrested, the plenary session could be suspended in front of the president of the Catalan chamber. Josep Rull.
As usual, the Mossos d’Esquadra will have a extended safety feature in which they will shield the entrances to Parliament, located in the Parc de la Ciutadella, to guarantee the security of the parliamentary session.
Pro-independence groups have already announced they will demonstrate against Illa’s inauguration, and the far-right Vox party has also called a rally near parliament at 9:30am.
