In Berlin, there are increasing indications from secret services of a drone attack (see video above).
The NATO air base in Geilenkirchen, Germany is preparing for a Russian act of sabotage and has increased its security level. There had been a serious tip-off about this from a foreign intelligence service. Geilenkirchen is located in the far west of Germany, near Aachen and close to the border with the Netherlands.
Security measures have been scaled back
Last week, the second-highest security level was in effect for almost 24 hours due to a potential threat to the NATO base in North Rhine-Westphalia. All non-essential staff were sent home.
After nothing happened, security measures were lowered again on Friday afternoon. The second-highest security level, Charlie, in NATO jargon, means that an incident has occurred or that there are indications that some form of terrorist action against the alliance is likely.
Special aircraft are stationed in Geilenkirchen, which are currently mainly used to monitor the airspace in the eastern alliance area. About 1,600 people work there.
Suspicious sightings
As early as July, American military bases in Germany and other European countries were on high alert due to the threat of terrorism. There were also fears of sabotage at various Bundeswehr locations in Germany. For example, there was a security incident at the waterworks at the Cologne-Wahn air force barracks. The suspicion: The drinking water was polluted. After an inspection, the all-clear has now been given.
In Geilenkirchen, a person was questioned after suspicious sightings, but the suspicion of sabotage was not confirmed.
