SPÖ chairman of Deutsch-Wagram (Lower Austria) and candidate for the National Council Gurdial-Singh Bajwa comes from India. He was now the target of racist insults because of an election poster. The state security service is already investigating the case.
At the age of six, Gurdial-Singh Bajwa came to Austria from India with his parents. He has lived in Deutsch-Wagram for more than thirty years. The entrepreneur is involved in professional representation and local politics, is vice-chairman for transport and traffic at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and SPÖ chairman and city councilor in his hometown.

“Gurdial-Singh Bajwa is a perfect example of successful integration,” SPÖ state manager Wolfgang Zwander explains. Why does the party manager emphasize this? The comrade with Indian roots fell victim to the mockery of the lowest class on the Internet. After he was depicted with a turban on a poster for the National Council elections – he is in 12th place in the regional constituency – a hate video was posted that was also made with racist remarks: “Well, are you buying rose?” ) or ““He stands at Hofer and guards the shopping carts” you can read there.
Solidarity across party lines
It is not only party friends who are now supporting Gurdial-Singh Bajwa. “He supports clubs and has been fully integrated for years,” says MP René Zonschits. ÖVP mayor Ulla Mühl Hittinger also praises his commitment to the general public: “He is involved in many parts of the municipality.”
A plea for state security?
The State Bureau for State Security and Combating Extremism is now investigating whether the posting constitutes a criminal offense. The slandered person himself shows his caliber: “I should be judged by my actions, not by my appearance!”
