Republicans probably won’t like this at all: According to a survey, US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has overtaken former Republican President Donald Trump when it comes to the economy and crime.
According to the poll released Tuesday, 43 percent of voters prefer Trump’s approach to the economy, while 40 percent prefer Harris’s. When it comes to crime, Harris has completely made up the deficit she once had, with both now sitting at 40 percent.
Trump’s lead on economics is not significant given the four-point fluctuation in the survey. In the last Reuters/Ipsos poll in late July, he was ahead on this question by 11 points.
Economy is extremely important to Americans
The August 23-25 survey reaffirms the importance of the economy in the election campaign. It is the most important issue for 26 percent of registered U.S. voters, followed by political extremism and threats to democracy at 22 percent and immigration at 13 percent.

Neither candidate is overly popular: According to the survey, 59 percent of voters have an unfavorable opinion of Trump and 52 percent of Harris. Conversely, the incumbent vice president was viewed favorably by 47 percent of voters, compared to 39 percent for Trump.
A close race ensues
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the campaign, Harris took over the Democratic nomination in July. Overall, polls show her with a narrow lead over Trump ahead of the Nov. 5 election. A close outcome is generally expected, not least because of the relatively complicated U.S. electoral process.
