The General Secretary of JxCat, Jordi Turultoday offered new details about the escape of former President of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont on August 8. As explained, Puigdemont stayed until 7:00 p.m. in the afternoon before returning to Waterloo (Belgium).

In statements to RAC1, Turull explained that after leaving the podium near the Arc de Triomphe in the Catalan capital, Puigdemont moved to an apartment in Barcelona, ​​​​​​where he stayed “until noon”, when he made the decision. . to return to Waterloo due to the “impossibility” of attending the plenary session. investiture of Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat. From that apartment, Turull said, he moved to another apartment, also in the Catalan capital, but further away from the vicinity of parliament, and from which he left at around 8 p.m.

As Turull explained, Puigdemont’s intention was to attend the debate and enter parliament, and he decided to flee when he saw the Mossos d’Esquadra unit trying to arrest him. He has also denied the existence of any agreement with the Catalan police over the arrest of the former president.

Puigdemont entered Catalonia via the AP-7 motorway on 6 August, two days before the investiture debate was held, and also left by road on the 8th, although Turull did not reveal which route he took. Yes, he said he returned to Belgium without any stops. “The problem is not Puigdemont, it is a judge who should have applied the amnesty and did not apply it,” he indicated.

Regarding JxCat’s role in the Congress of Deputies, Turull reiterated that the government “does not have any guaranteed support”, that they have reached an agreement on the investiture of Pedro Sánchez as president of the government “in exchange for the amnesty”, and that they would negotiate later ‘piece by piece’.
