While Eider Mendoza assures that the Basque Government “has confirmed” its commitment to the Ezkio-Itsaso connection, María Ubarretxena confirms that “nothing has been decided” and that they will not make any statement until they have all the information.
The high-speed train connection, the so-called Basque Y, with Navarra is one of the topics that has generated the most statements from Basque institutions in recent weeks. It will soon be decided whether this connection will be via Vitoria-Gasteiz or Ezkio-Itsaso, and the issue is causing disagreements.
The General Deputy of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendozahas ruled that the Basque Government has already confirmed its commitment to connect the TAV via Ezkio-Itsaso, otherwise it “will no longer be functional”.
He believes that when Lehendakari Pradales states that the decision must be taken ‘between the three institutions’, he ‘wants to point out’ that ‘the Basque Government will not be a simple spectator, that the Basque institutions will not be simple spectators, but that the Basque Government will play a decisive and decisive role.
On his part, the spokesperson of the Basque government, María Ubarretxenadid not want to comment on evaluating Mendoza’s words, but made it clear that “nothing has been decided yet.”
In his words: “At this moment we are waiting for a report from the ministry and until we have all the information available we are not going to make a statement.” He added that “we believe it is a decision that must be taken responsibly, seriously and with all the information available.”
