Following criticism over a TikTok video showing him with an assault rifle, Hessian AfD state MP Maximilian Müger has complied with a request to leave his party.
“The state spokespeople of the AfD Hesse have asked Maximilian Müger to leave the party – he complied with this request on Friday and also announced his resignation from the parliamentary group,” explained the two state spokespeople Robert Lambrou and Andreas Lichert.
“We expressly distance ourselves from Maximilian Müger’s behavior and condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” the state association’s statement continued. By leaving the party, Müger “spared the party and the parliamentary group the time-consuming process of party and faction expulsion, which would inevitably have befallen him because of his behavior.”
This video caused a stir:
As the “Hessenschau” reported, a video was briefly shown on the online service TikTok in which Müger, with a gun in his hand, called for the fight against migration. The video was quickly deleted. According to the information, Müger explained that it had been published “by accident” and was actually intended for private use.
