Republican Campaign: – Warning about migrants who “eat pets”

Date:

While Republican politicians – especially presidential candidate Donald Trump – previously warned about murderers, drug dealers and rapists that the Joe Biden administration had allegedly brought to the US as part of its migration policy, a particularly horrific fake news campaign is now being waged.

About two months before the US presidential election, top US Republicans shared false claims about pets being stolen and eaten by Haitian immigrants in the US state of Ohio. “Protect our ducks and kittens in Ohio!” members of the House Judiciary Committee wrote on X on Monday, publishing an AI-generated image of their presidential candidate Donald Trump rescuing a kitten and a duck (see below).

His running mate, Ohio native JD Vance, told X that “Haitian illegal immigrants” in the city of Springfield were draining social services and generally causing chaos. Pets are now reportedly “being kidnapped and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country,” Vance said. “Please vote Trump so Haitian immigrants don’t eat us,” read a photo of kittens shared by Sen. Ted Cruz.

Footage of ‘cat eater’ being arrested
Some right-wing social media accounts had shared a post about a woman in Ohio who allegedly killed and ate a pet cat. Although no evidence was found linking the incident to immigrants or the Haitian community, footage of her arrest was still shared (see below).

Springfield law enforcement quickly debunked the false claims. “There are no credible reports or specific allegations that pets of individuals in the immigrant community have been harmed, injured or abused,” city police said.

Musk also distributed recordings
Elon Musk, who recently endorsed Trump’s candidacy, also shared campaign messages on his short message platform,” he said.
