Former independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy apparently used more than just a bear carcass for his own purposes. Twenty years ago, he allegedly illegally attacked a beached whale—with a chainsaw, his daughter reports.
During a campaign appearance for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Kennedy said he was being investigated for illegally removing parts of a dead whale from a beach and taking it home 20 years ago.
Just a few weeks ago, the nephew of legendary former President John F. Kennedy caused a stir with a bizarre story about a bear’s body being dumped in New York’s Central Park. Like the bear story, the whale incident also happened a few years ago.
Daughter told about whale incident
In 2012, Town & Country magazine ran a story about Kennedy’s daughter Kick. When she was a child, it was reported that a dead whale had washed up on the coast of New England in the northeastern United States, the article said. Her father then drove to the beach with a chainsaw, chopped off the whale’s head, and tied it with a rope to the roof of the family car.
The reason for this was that Robert F. Kennedy liked to study animal skulls and skeletons. “Every time we accelerated on the freeway, whale juice would flow into the windows of the car and it was the most disgusting thing in the world,” says daughter Kick.
This isn’t the first chilling story about Kennedy: a few months ago, he admitted that he had found the body of a bear on the street about a decade ago and loaded it into his car. He said he had originally intended to skin the bear and store the meat in his refrigerator. But then he had to go to the airport and dumped the dead bear in Central Park. In the wake of this bear episode, the old “Town & Country” article has gained new attention.
Kennedy said at a campaign event over the weekend that he had received a letter saying he was under investigation. It is unclear whether the 70-year-old has actually been officially investigated and, if so, what the exact background was. Regarding the investigation, Kennedy presumably referred to a federal maritime agency, but he did not describe it correctly. An environmental organization had written to the agency, calling on Kennedy to investigate the whaling incident.
Kennedy sees party political coloring
The Trump supporter criticized the lawsuit as motivated by partisan politics and cited the statute of limitations. In the United States, collecting parts of protected marine animals is prohibited under certain circumstances.
Kennedy withdrew from the White House race in August and endorsed Republican Trump. The politician, a Democrat himself for decades, has increasingly distanced himself from the party in recent years, breaking with the Democrats altogether in October 2023 when he announced his presidential candidacy as a non-party candidate. The avowed anti-vaxxer has been widely criticized by Democrats and other members of his family for spreading conspiracy myths and associating with far-right politicians.
