The Basque Government’s security adviser, Bingen Zupiria, has appeared before the Basque Parliament’s Commission for Institutions, Public Administration and Security to present his department’s objectives for this term.
The Basque government’s security advisor, Bing Zupiriastressed the need to address, as another challenge, the ‘feeling’ of insecurity in society: ‘Increasing the sense of security in Euskadi is also our task.’
During his appearance last Wednesday before the Basque Parliament’s Commission for Institutions, Public Administration and Security, the Minister of Security stressed that Euskadi is a safe countrybut added that the number of reported crimes has increased in recent years, as has the “feeling” of insecurity in society. For this reason, he pointed to the need to face this “perception” as a new challenge.
Zupiria has confirmed that Ertzaintza is firmly committed to the work of prevention and prosecution of crimes. On the one hand, he stressed the importance of prevention to tackle all this, since “it is much more effective to work on improving prevention than to deal with incidents.” On the other hand, he said that the Ertzaintza is working to prevent “impunity for those who commit crimes.”
Likewise, Zupiria has recognized that “the Ertzaintza must be in constant evolution, moving forward by adapting to the changes that take place in the society it serves.”
As for the conflict in the ErtzaintzaCouncillor Zupiria committed to promoting dialogue and agreement on the agreement regulating the working conditions of Ertzaintza staff and to address it “with the best spirit and maximum dedication”.
Finally, Zupiria took advantage of his intervention to recall that the Spanish State must transfer the resources and services related to both “meteorological services” and “maritime rescue operations”.
