Success for the Tyrolean police in the fight against the drug scene! After years of large-scale cocaine and cannabis trafficking, a total of 19 people were arrested. Two arrests were made on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, Helmut Tomac, director of the Tyrolean State Police, Katja Tersch, head of the criminal investigation office, Karl Kraus, district police commander of Kufstein, and Hansjörg Mayr, spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Innsbruck, appeared before the press and revealed details of the arrests.
That is why there has been intensive investigation in recent months. In Tyrol, 17 people were arrested, in Styria and Croatia two more arrests were made.
35 kilograms of cocaine and 120 kilograms of cola
People with ties to the drug gang are said to have traded approximately 35 kilos of cocaine and 120 kilos of cannabis since 2020. The investigation is still ongoing. So far, eight suspects have been remanded in custody.
Two people – who had only been arrested on Tuesday and had just returned from the Caribbean with cocaine – were heard in court on Wednesday morning. “We are looking for more people,” Mayr said. State police chief Katja Tersch spoke of 21 people who were allegedly involved.
Street value 4.5 million euros
The investigators have identified four main suspects so far. They are two Croats, a Bosnian and an Austrian, aged between 28 and 39. A total of seventeen men and two women are said to be involved.
In September 2022, the LKA received a tip that a 39-year-old Bosnian was dealing cocaine and cannabis and communicating via a crypto mobile phone. A year earlier, a server had been seized in France through international cooperation. By evaluating 70,000 chats, the suspected drug dealers were eventually tracked down.
According to Tomac, the street value of the drugs totals around 4.5 million euros.
