“We are bathed in blood” – Wagner boss: “Russians bombed us”

Date:

The head of the mercenary group Wagner from the Ukraine reported this in drastic terms on Friday. He accused the Russian military leadership of bombing his troops. A “very large” number of Wagner mercenaries were killed by the attacks, Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a voice message published by his press service on Friday.

The mercenary chief accused the Russian defense minister of ordering the attacks on Wagner troop camps. “We were willing to make concessions to the Defense Ministry to hand over our weapons,” Prigozhin said. Nevertheless, “they carried out rocket attacks on our rear camps”.

Wagner boss wants to “stop” Russian leadership.
The Wagner boss promised to “respond” to the attacks and “stop” the Russian military leadership. The denial from Moscow came immediately. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu denied attacks on the Wagner mercenaries.

However, Prigozhin went further. In the message, he called on Russian soldiers to join his fighters. “The Russian army leadership still hopes that they can win this war. But as long as there is no leadership, there will be no military success.” The Ministry of Defense leadership in Moscow allegedly “gently cheated” President Vladimir Putin by sending him fake reports.

Ukrainian forces push back Russian army
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Prigozhin said Moscow would withdraw its troops from the south and east of Ukraine in the face of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. “On the battlefield, the Russian army is retreating to the fronts of Zaporizhia and Kherson,” he said. “Ukrainian forces push back Russian army.”

“We are washing ourselves in blood. No one is bringing reinforcements. What they are telling us is a bitter deception,” Prigozhin continued, directly contradicting statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had spoken of “catastrophic” enemy losses and a lull in The Kremlin declared last year that the Cherson and Zaporizhia regions of southern Ukraine have been annexed, but admits it does not have full control over them.

Wagner mercenaries played an important role in Bachmut
The Prigozhin mercenaries, largely recruited from Russian prisons, have played a central role in the Russian fighting in Ukraine. The 62-year-old businessman’s fighters with formerly good Kremlin connections played a particularly prominent role in Bakhmut’s protracted and bloody conquest of the Donetsk region.

In recent months, Prigozhin – frustrated by supply problems and a lack of support from Moscow – has become one of the most vehement critics of the Russian military leadership through his Telegram channel, and in his most recent statement even undermined Putin’s justification for the offensive in the neighbor: “Why did the military special operation start?” Prigozhin asked, answering himself: “The war was necessary for the self-portrait of a bunch of bastards.”
