The Supreme Court judge has no power to investigate what happened, so he has urged the Catalan courts to analyse the facts, considering the possibility that several crimes have been committed.
Supreme Court Judge Pablo Llarena has sent the police reports relating to the entry into Catalonia and subsequent escape of former President Carles Puigdemont last August to the Barcelona courts without being arrested, before the possibility of various crimes being committed.
The magistrate, who has no investigative powers These facts consider that “the participation of other non-apparent perpetrators in the crimes”, the failure to fulfill the duty to prosecute crimes and their cover-up cannot be ruled out.
He points out in his resolution that the police reports “do not reflect any impediments for the police apparatus to address the detection” of Puigdemont on the podium where he gave a short speech before the inauguration of the current president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, last August 8.
Nor does he see that it was “impossible to effectively address his subsequent surveillance and overreach, to the point where his escape from national territory became a reality.”
