Austria’s loud voice is stirring up federal politics in the National Council election campaign. Seven clear demands now serve as central guidelines for the next government.
As unspectacular as the election campaign has been so far, the outcome promises to be just as exciting – and the period afterward will be just as explosive. One thing is already clear: regardless of who forms the next government, with whom – Austria’s voice wants and must be heard. This is evident from the hundreds of letters and reactions that ‘Krone’ received during the campaign.
The aim was to give Austrians a strong voice that would be a wake-up call for politics. The basis for this was a survey by pollster Peter Hajek, which yielded clear results and also gave rise to further political debates.
“Anyone who does not abide by our rules must be strictly deported!”
A message that received a lot of support across party lines. The deportations of our neighbours from Germany and to Afghanistan, as well as the earlier attack in Solingen, Germany, made the issue even more explosive.
“No new taxes!”
A topic that particularly heated SPÖ leader Babler. He calls for wealth, inheritances and higher corporate taxes. However, we have a spending problem rather than a revenue problem. This cannot be solved with new taxes. Babler also recently received criticism within the SPÖ.
“All school children need healthy and free school meals!”
Every school and nursery child in Austria should have the right to a warm and, above all, healthy snack for the (lunch) break.
“ORF yes – but smaller, more economical and closer to the customer!”
The desire of the Austrians for a more economical ORF is also clear. The ORF reform, which is already legally necessary, offers an opportunity to take this desire into account. Politics will be measured by their actions.
“Plant trees, not burgers!”
Emergency services throughout Austria fought until the end against enormous amounts of water. The floods show how urgently our soils need to be protected from the access of speculators. The readers of “Krone” already had a clear opinion on this.
“My life must become affordable again!”
Austrians have to spend more and more money on housing, but also on daily groceries. The Vienna SPÖ mayor Michael Ludwig even called for a separate Ministry of Housing. One thing is certain: affordable housing and our food must be supported.
“Winnetou must remain Winnetou!”
Wokeness madness creates problems, but does not solve them. At the request of citizens, ORF presenters must also refrain from using gender, which is often unspeakable.
It is this kind of news that the 183 future National Council members must pay attention to. An appeal is being made to the next government. Otherwise, the next election campaign may come sooner than we would all like…
