If you want to cast your vote for the National Council election with a voting card, you need to be quick. The deadline for requesting this in writing ends tomorrow, Wednesday. However, those who come to collect the card in person have until Friday afternoon (12:00).
Voting cards can be requested in writing by letter, using a card from the voting folder, by fax, by e-mail or with ID Austria in the “Digital Office” app or online. This deadline ends tomorrow, Wednesday, at 23:59. After that, you can only submit the application in person: at the municipality where you are registered in the electoral register. What you need to take into account is where you lived on 9 July 2024 (reference date). The deadline for collecting a voting card is next Friday at 12:00.
How to cast your vote
Anyone who has requested a voting card in time then has various options to cast their vote. For example, directly when collecting it from the municipality or magistrate or at any polling station. You can also send the card by post from home or abroad before Sunday or have it delivered directly to the district election authority.
Bedridden people can cast their vote for a ‘flying electoral authority’. The voting card must be received by the electoral authority before 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The deadlines for Austrians abroad to hand in their cards to the Austrian representative authorities have now passed. These deadlines expired on 20 September (outside the European Economic Area) and 23 September (within Europe). Nationwide, you can choose from nine parties: ÖVP, FPÖ, SPÖ, Groenen, NEOS, KPÖ, Beer Party, List Madeleine Petrovic and NONE.
