Media manager and political expert Hans Mahr analyzes the results of the National Council elections in the krone.tv lecture. He believes that a “sugar coalition” consisting of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS is most likely.
“We have already seen that the three who actually want to get together will come together. The NEOS want to govern and SPÖ leader Andreas Babler has contacted them. For Babler, participation in government is the most important thing, because he has to save himself from his catastrophic result in government and he will probably succeed,” Mahr believes.
Babler really achieved a catastrophic result if you consider that the KPÖ and all the small parties did not get in. The SPÖ leader followed a relatively strong left-wing course, Mahr said. Yet he also failed to win over small party voters from the left-wing spectrum.
Mahr: “Give up the center and blink further to the left – we have seen that this is not the right strategy.”
Moreover, unlike other experts, Mahr expects that a government will be formed relatively quickly. “I think we can do this in a month or two before Christmas.”
