The right to decide has once again exposed the differences between the PNV and the PSE-EE. The PNV and EH Bildu groups of the Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa General Assemblies approved two motions on the right to decide last week, which the Socialists voted against. In this sense, the spokesperson of the Basque Government and Minister of Administration, Digital Governance and Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxenahas stated that these motions have not caused any rifts within the Basque executive. “There is a good atmosphere within the Basque government and at the moment we are certainly continuing the debate very calmly,” he added.

In an interview in Euskadi Irratia, Ubarretxena pointed out that “there is a government agreement that reflects very well what the action should be and the executive follows that document with total loyalty.” The debate on the new Statute “must take place in the Basque Parliament and there it must be debated and agreed upon,” said Ubarretxena, who stated that the Basque government “will respect what comes out of that Chamber”, which in all respects In In that case, he hopes that “it will be done with the broadest possible consensus.”

On the other hand, Ubarretxena positively appreciated the meeting he held yesterday with the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi España, to facilitate the negotiations on the ongoing transfers and to conclude the meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission that will take place soon and which will be chaired by Pedro Sánchez and the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales.

A total of 29 transfers are missing to complete the whole Statute of Gernikaincluding the management of the social security system. The Minister of Self-Government has reiterated that the Spanish government has already put on the table a first proposal to transfer the first six pending powers: planning and management of the coastline, permits for self-employment and work by foreigners, maritime rescue, meteorology, film protection fund and occupational health and safety at the National Machine Verification Center in Bizkaia.

Finally, he recalled that the PNV agreement to invest Pedro Sánchez includes the commitment to finally complete the Statute of Gernika, within a period of up to two years. In this sense, he is “optimistic” and has assured that “Euskadi” will make “100%” of its contribution to comply with the agreements.
