Date:

One of Lehendakari’s objectives is the configuration of the Atlantic macro-region, which he believes is crucial for strengthening cohesion between the territories and promoting cooperation.

The Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, has been elected chairman of the Atlantic Arc Commission for the next two years, the period 2024-2026. The designation took place during the CAA meeting held these days in Malta, in the context of the General Assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions.

The Basque government has been President of the Commission since 2020 and will continue this work until 2026.

During the CAA meeting, the present representatives of the Basque government presented the status of the Atlantic Macroregion Roadmap project. One of the objectives set by Pradales is the configuration of this macro-region, which he considers key to strengthening cohesion between the Atlantic territories, to promote cooperation with the economic and social actors of said territories.

In the same way, it aims to ensure that the voice of the Atlantic regions is more widely reflected in the policies and funding programs of the European Union. The Lehendakari has advocated that projects in the Atlantic region “receive greater support in the European Union and result in improving the quality of life of our communities.”
