At a meeting of mayors of the coalition in Pamplona, the general coordinator of EH Bildu was convinced that the municipal councils “will play an important role in the defense of the freedom and national recognition of this city.”
The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has stated that the Spanish autonomous model is “exhausted” and “does not serve to respect the national rights of the Basque people” or “to deal with neoliberal policies.” And he is convinced that the municipal councils “will play an important role in the defense of freedom and the national recognition of this city.”
“We don’t mean to say that it hasn’t had a journey or that it hasn’t been useful for anything. What we are saying is that, in strategic terms, it is a model that does not provide this country with the necessary tools to confront precisely neoliberal policies and that does not serve to respect the national rights of the Basque people,” he stressed. in his intervention, during a meeting of coalition mayors at the Iruña Park hotel in Pamplona.
The general coordinator of the coalition has stated that “in Euskal Herria there are two factors that very importantly determine the political and social evolution of the coming months and years”, namely “the failure of neoliberal policies” and that the autonomous model “is exhausted .” “Two findings that are becoming increasingly clear,” he said.
“More wars, with more social injustices, with more inequalities”
For example, he has warned that neoliberal policies are “leading us to a much more uncertain world, with more wars, with more social injustices, with more inequalities.”
Moreover, he emphasized that “neoliberal capitalism has failed to solve a single problem that affects people’s social and human rights: it has not solved the problem of inequality, it has not solved the problem of the gender gap . the housing problem hasn’t solved anything at all and what it has done is exacerbate many of the problems we had before.”
He is confident that “we are already launching anti-neoliberal policies to the extent of our possibilities in all our municipalities” in areas such as housing, social rights or education.
Faced with the ‘neoliberal logic of prioritizing the interests of a small elite“What our mayors bring to the table are the needs of the popular majorities,” he said.
Finally, Otegi has emphasized that the budget debate in the Basque Autonomous Community and Navarre must be a turning point to “put on the table” the priorities of training and investing resources.
