The conference, organized by the United Nations and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be held today and tomorrow at the Palace of Europe. Victims, associations, experts and political and diplomatic representatives from fifty countries will participate.
The Europa Conference Center in Vitoria-Gasteiz will host this Tuesday and Wednesday the International Conference of Victims of Terrorismorganized by the United Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting, which will have a significant presence of authorities and more than 300 confirmed international guests, will impact vehicle traffic and parking, as well as pedestrian traffic in the area.
As a general recommendation, it is advisable to travel around the area by private vehicle. The right lane of Ramón y Cajal Street, towards Paseo de la Senda, is closed to traffic until Thursday morning. Moreover, it will be possible to produce punctual traffic and cuts in pedestrian traffic near the Europa Conference Center, on Gasteiz Avenue, upon the arrival of the authorities.
He parking will be prohibited in parts of Portal de Castilla, Gasteiz Avenue, Chile, Fernández de Leceta and Bolivia streets, and Plaza del Renacimiento. The Palacio Europa car park will remain closed to the public until tomorrow evening. Finally, the Chile Street taxi rank changes location to number 7.
The international conference will be a continuation of the I Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism to be held at UN Headquarters in New York in September 2022. Interventions planned for this afternoon include the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Office of Combating Terrorism, Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov; Lehendakari Imanol Pradales; the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Interior, José Manuel Albares and Fernando Grande Marlaska respectively, as well as representatives of the victims present at the event.
For two days, victims of terrorism, victims’ associations, experts and political and diplomatic representatives from fifty countries will participate.
The event will take place under the motto “Education as a tool for prevention, peacebuilding and empowerment of victims of terrorism.” The aim, according to the UN, is to “show solidarity with all victims of terrorism around the world, regardless of religion, nationality or ethnicity.”
The international conference will conclude with a tribute ceremony for the victims in which tribute will be paid to all the people who lost their lives in terrorist acts.
