The PNV and PSE amendment has continued with the votes in favor of these two parties, the abstention of EH Bildu, Sumar and Vox, while the PP has positioned itself against.
He Basque Parliament has asked the Basque government to make progress in the Basque language of the administration of justice and encourage the use of services in Basque by citizens and professionals through the development of the language standardization plan 2023-2032.
This is reflected in the joint amendment of the PNV and PSE-EE which was approved on Thursday by the Gasteiz Chamber, after the plenary debate on a non-legislative proposal by EH Bildu, in which the nationalist coalition urged the Basque government to carry out an analysis within a year after the degree guarantee of language rights in the administration of Justice. EH Bildu also requested a study into the obstacles and problems that employees and users encounter when dealing with the language they choose.
EH Bildu’s proposal has been rejected and the PNV and PSE amendment has gone ahead with the votes in favor of these two parties, the abstention of EH Bildu, Sumar and Vox, while the PP has positioned itself against.
The EH Bildu MP Eraitz Saez de Egilaz has denounced the existence of first-class and second-class citizens in the administration of justice, because the right to all proceedings in Basque is violated. According to the coalition, the approved amendment is inadequate.
For his part, the parliamentarian Yeltzale Markel Aranburu has pointed out that the Basque government has been working for years to address the “precarious” situation of the Basque language in the field of justice, which “is not an easy task” because this administrative area is a meeting space “between different areas of competence.”
