Catalan, Basque, Galician and Valencian delegates asserted their language for the presidency of the Congress, speaking in their own language in the plenary hall; although they were given a few minutes to intervene, the majority have been cut off.

Congressional plenary will debate and vote in favor of the bill this Tuesday ERC, PNV and the multiple group reform the rules of the House of Representatives so that the co-official languages can be spoken in plenary interventions, in parliamentary committees and in registered documents.

The ERC delegate first opened the debate in Spanish, emphasizing that it is an anomaly that Spanish is imposed in the same country and that a conference cannot be given in the mother tongue, and immediately afterwards described in Catalan the “hypocrisy of a plural Spain where only Castilian Spain exists”.

The first vice president of the congress table, Alfonso Rodríguez de Celis, has twice called attention to the deputy who has finally left the podium. A situation later reproduced with the deputies of JxCAT, BNG and the CUP, who have not given in to the urging to stop speaking in their own language.

Some spokespersons such as the PDeCAT, or the PNV and EH Bildu have preferred to intervene by translating their arguments simultaneously.

Mertxe Aipurua of EH Bildu has criticized that the co-official languages are “invisible” and that only short sentences are accepted in Congress.

From the PNV, the deputy Joseba Agirretxea has criticized in Spanish and Basque those “who say they are Spanish languages and do nothing to make it so” because the instinct of “the prevalence of Spanish” overwhelms them.
