In a letter to his Eibar party colleagues, he announces that he will resign from his role as councilor. He does this, as he explains, because of the government pact signed with the Socialists.
“The agreement reached means, from my point of view, that we put our projects on the shelf and make those of the other possible. I don’t think it is a worthy agreement, and that is why I feel unable to implement it. We Jeltzales deserve that our representatives have full conviction in their actions.” In those words, Josu Mendikute, spokesperson for PNV at the town hall Eibar announced yesterday that he wants to resign as councilor. He did this through a letter to his fellow party members in the Armed Village, the contents of which he published today. Gara.
Mendikute explains in the letter that the decision was prompted by the government pact signed with the PSE-EE. After acknowledging that resigning “is a painful decision”, he affirms that he has “always” believed that to hold public office two principles must be met: “maintaining personal convictions and that these coincide with the party’s mandate.’ In the event that these principles do not coincide, he adds, “there is no point” in remaining in office.
After 13 years of disagreementsthe PNV and the PSE-EE have reached an agreement on the formation of a coalition government in the Eibar municipal council. As indicated yesterday by representatives of both parties, the aim of the pact in a joint appearance is to provide “stability” to the municipality and promote projects that “improve” the quality of life of citizens. The agreement will give them an absolute majority: the PSE-EE has eight councilors, the PNV and EH Bildu each have six councilors, and Elkarrekin Podemos one.
It was precisely in the prey wheel that attention was drawn to the absence the Mendikute, who assured EITB in a telephone conversation that he will provide all explanations for his actions in the party’s internal bodies.
