Buy open votes? – Musk lures Trump voters with controversial lottery

Date:

Tech billionaire and Trump supporter Elon Musk has announced that he wants to hand out millions of US dollars to people who support his political agenda. The limitation: The offer is aimed at registered voters in swing states that are particularly hotly contested in the presidential election.

The petition advocates for “freedom of speech and the right to bear arms” and was launched by Musk’s organization “America PAC”. This supports the election campaign of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“We will randomly award $1 million every day from now until the election to people who sign the petition,” Musk said during a campaign appearance in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s swing state. Musk said his goal is to get between one and two million voters in battleground states to sign the petition because “this is an important message for our elected leaders.”

Musk presented the first check at the event to a man from Pennsylvania:

Is that still legal?
Musk’s goal will likely be to get a particularly large number of conservatives in hotly contested states to register to vote. The program could violate campaign finance rules because it is not legal in the United States to pay people to register to vote.

Musk has been supporting Republican Trump financially for some time with donations worth millions. According to documents from the American election authority FEC, the Tesla boss donated approximately 75 million dollars (69 million euros) in tranches within three months to the ‘America PAC’, which supports Trump in the election campaign.

Musk is aiming for an official position
Trump will face Democrat Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election. Musk, who often gives conspiracy theories reach, has supported Trump for a long time. The Tesla boss also regularly speaks out against Harris. Trump had recently indicated that Musk could be put at the head of a committee to review US finances if he wins the election. Musk should cut government spending, Trump said.
