Germany and Great Britain are becoming even closer militarily; they are responding to the war in Ukraine and want to become more independent from the US.
British Defense Minister John Healey speaks of a ‘milestone’, a ‘historic contract’ that he and his German colleague Boris Pistorius signed in the so-called Trinity House in London. The latter added that it was about strengthening “the European pillar within NATO”, as Europe’s security can no longer be taken for granted. This means: Europeans must at least try to become more independent from the US, not just in view of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Kamala Harris could also cut aid to Ukraine
After all, Donald Trump, a new president, could soon move into the White House in Washington, who, firstly, does not particularly appreciate NATO and secondly, could reduce support for Ukraine. Of course, this could also happen under President Kamala Harris, as the US has turned its strategic attention to Asia since President Barack Obama took office.
Many new armament projects
The aim of the new agreement is a whole range of new armaments projects – from more modern tanks and drones to improved long-range missiles and conventional weapons. The German Rheinmetall will build a factory in England for the production of artillery tubes.
In addition, German maritime reconnaissance and submarine hunting aircraft will regularly take off from Scotland to track and pursue Russian submarines in the North Atlantic.
