Euskadi will have a budget of 15.728 million euros, with “record investments” in healthcare

Date:

The Lehendakari has announced that investments in healthcare will exceed 5 billion euros for the first time. The Basque government will approve the budgets on Tuesday.

Next year the Basque government will have the highest budget in history as it will amount to 15,728 million euros, which is 700 million more than in 2024 and an increase of almost 4.5%, as announced this Monday by the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, at a meeting with citizens in Vitoria-Gasteiz on the eve of the government council approving next year’s budget project.

The 2025 bills will run on three “pillars”: public services, especially healthcare; investments in ‘future transformations’ to ‘turn Euskadi into the engine of the reindustrialization of Europe’, and in the sense of community, both from a cultural and linguistic point of view and from a self-governance perspective.

Details of the figures – which combine “severity in spending and investments” – will be announced tomorrow by Finance and Finance Minister Noël d’Anjou. However, the Lehendakari has announced that the healthcare budget will exceed 5,000 million euros for the first time, bringing the health investment per person to 2,300 euros.

In addition to health, strengthening public services also includes education, where efforts are made to improve the equity of the system and its academic outcomes; housing, with support for emancipation and measures to increase the supply of apartments and limit their prices; and security, with a particular focus on sexist violence and cybercrime.

Resources will also be allocated to improving public transport and strengthening social protection. For example, 68 million will be spent on supplementing the lowest pensions and more than 400 million on people who are “at risk of social exclusion”.

The Lehendakari has also chosen to “take advantage of the current growth cycle to activate productive and transformative investments that prepare Euskadi for the future”, for which more than 1.5 billion euros will be allocated.

The third pillar of the Basque budgets for 2025 is the strengthening of the sense of community, which means that we must take care of the Basque culture and the ‘treasure’ that is Basque, and that we must also ‘strengthen our values, guarantee equality and progress must make progress in our self-reliance. government.”
