Ukraine has apparently carried out its first attack on a target in Russia’s Caucasus republic of Chechnya: the “Russian University of Special Forces” was hit by a drone. Ruler Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed the attack.
Photos on social media showed a roof of the facility in the town of Gudermes on fire. Kadyrov claimed that the building would be empty. According to the Chechen ruler, there were no casualties or major damage. The flames could therefore be extinguished.

Report: main building hit
However, images shared on social media suggest greater damage. The independent news portal Agentstvo reported that the fire broke out in the main building. Ukraine has not yet responded to the incident.
The university is named after Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin only visited the facility in August this year. Kadyrov presented the facility as a multifunctional complex that combines modern methods and techniques of special forces. The Kremlin said on its website that Putin visited the training complex, “observed classes and spoke with commanders of the special forces, instructors and volunteers undergoing training there.”
Kadyrov fighters are currently stationed in Kursk
Soldiers from Chechnya are involved in the war against Ukraine. Kadyrov provides the Russian army with a volunteer unit. This unit played a vital role in the capture of Mariupol in 2022. It is said that Chechen fighters are now stationed in the Kursk region to fight the Ukrainian counterattack.
